Our School presence in Erasmus+

The 3rd Gymnasium of Argostoli was founded in 1978, has nine classes, and serves an average of 165 (150-180) students. The school employs 14 teachers with permanent positions and additionally, 10 are placed on a permanent basis. These teachers teach all the subjects of the Gymnasium curriculum and implement the programs undertaken by the school.

The student body of our school, aged 12 to 15, mainly comes from the city of Argostoli but also serves peripheral settlements of Argostoli and some semi-mountainous villages within a distance of up to 15 km. The student population consists mainly of students of Greek origin with a significant percentage of students from immigrant families, mainly from Balkan countries, most of whom usually reside in our country for years.

In addition to the school program, our school actively participates in activities within the school life and the local community. A large number of environmental education programs (Dragon of Ainos, Ramsar Convention), Health Education (I Rely on My Feet, AIDS, Surfing the Internet, etc.), Career Education (Educational Systems in Europe, etc.), Robotics (programming, STEM), and Cultural Programs (Lyricists, Museums of the city, Kefalonian cuisine, etc.) are carried out. The school’s participation in European Programs (Etwining, Comenius, Study Visits, Erasmus, etc.) is continuous. Since 2019, 3 Erasmus+ programs and 2 Etwinning programs have been implemented. Finally, students’ participation in national competitions (Mathematics, Physics, Poetry, photography, robotics, etc.), voluntary actions, and activities (e.g., carnival, tree planting, theatrical performances, etc.) is encouraged, and our school has often been distinguished.

The 3rd Gymnasium of Argostoli, among other things, actively participates in the European Erasmus+ Program in recent years, having implemented a significant number of short-term programs. Since 2021, it has been accredited by the National Unit (IKY).

Our school is located on a relatively isolated island, with obstacles to access to the major urban centers of the country. Therefore, educational opportunities, for both teachers and students, are fewer. Issues such as internationalization, understanding of interculturality, acquisition of new knowledge, integration into a European framework of education quality, and inclusion play a significant role in the functioning of an educational organization. At the same time, developments in the field of education in recent years are rapid and create new demands and needs.

The goals of our School’s Erasmus+ Program for the period 2023-2027 (4-year accreditation period) are summarized as follows:

  • Management of European Programs/Administrative Skills
  • Distance Learning (Blended/Hybrid Education)
  • STE(A)M Programs
  • Literacy & Foreign Languages

More information about the goals can be found in the relevant section on the right. The goals are readjusted during the program after reevaluation.
